Hydrogel balls are bright, smooth, and elastic beads that expand several times in size after absorbing water. They are popular in children\u2019s play (for example, in hydrogel guns, also known as orbeez guns), decoration, and even plant care.<\/p>\n

What are they made of?<\/p>\n

These balls are made of a superabsorbent polymer, most commonly sodium polyacrylate. It is a safe and non-toxic material capable of absorbing a large amount of water \u2014 more than a hundred times its own weight.<\/p>\n

How do they work?<\/p>\n

Initially, the balls are very small (1\u20132 mm), but after being placed in water they expand to 10\u201315 mm (for guns, 7\u20138 mm in diameter are used). They swell thanks to their \u201csponge-like\u201d structure, which draws in and retains water. They become elastic, but upon impact they shatter without sharp fragments, reducing the risk of injury.<\/p>\n\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t<\/div>\n<\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div>
